About Healing Seekers

Healing Seekers is a web and TV expedition series devoted to the exploration of the health and healing traditions found  around the globe, especially in indigenous cultures and rainforests. Our programs are designed both to educate and to entertain - highlighting centuries - old traditions that can lead to new modern-day therapies. We encourage exploration and discovery, promote an appreciation for diverse tribal traditions, and encourage the preservation of plants, wildlife and other living entities that may hold the key to new treatments and cures.

Our programs are anchored by pharmacist Amy Greeson, who is at home talking to Amazon shamans and village healers as she is consulting with physicians and patients in her North Carolina pharmacy. Nationally certified in natural medicine. Amy is a lecturer, frequently published writer and host of broadcast programs.

Meet Amy Greeson

Amy GreesonAmy Greeson, producer and host of Healing Seekers, is a pharmacist, educator, lecturer, writer and world traveler who is most at home at the crossroads between medicine and the healing traditions of indigenous cultures.

Amy's lifelong interest in pharmacology began at the knee of her father, a pharmacy owner in a small North Carolina town. After working in research and development with Burroughs Welcome Pharmaceutical and spending a summer with Public Health Service, she earned her own pharmacy degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Amy went on to work in both a clinical setting and a retail pharmacy setting in Alaska before returning to take over her father's practice.

Her interest in centuries-old healing traditions began during a transformative trip to the Amazon, which she says opened not only her eyes, but also her heart and soul. "It awakened me and showed me a bigger, more complete picture of what healing is all about," she says.

Thomasville Pharmacist Travels the World to Study Healing Methods

The shaman started the ceremony with a blessing.

Reciting a prayer in his Andean dialect, he made the sign of the cross with his hand. Thomasville native Amy Greeson stood before him, unafraid. She traveled across the Atlantic Ocean and below the equator for this experience.

The shaman placed rose petals into the palm of his hand, then mixed them with oil. He dipped his index finger into the mixture, then made the sign of the cross on her forehead.

Finally, he blew smoke from a cigarette several times into the crown of Greeson's head. Some call this area the "crown chakra," and it's believed to be the body's energy center.

His breath felt warm against Greeson's scalp. Her body felt light; her spirit peaceful.
